Nicolas Ghesquière refreshes historic Louis Vuitton trunk design

Louis Vuitton‘s artistic director of women’s collections Nicolas Ghesquière refreshes the relationship between the fashion house’s heritage of traditional trunk design for the women’s fall 2015 collection.

The hard handbags are a riff on the time-honored cuboid containers most commonly used for holding clothes and personal belongings for travel, scaled down from over-sized luggage cases to portable carry-ons.

Vuitton’s luxury handbag collection for 2015 sources everything from an auto trunk for Citroën and Albert Kahn’s photographer’s case, to a tweed vanity container and Louis Vuitton’s ‘unpickable’ lock and key design. New materials, patterns and motifs add a twist on the classic, with malletage metallics and plexiglass pouches appearing alongside much-adored monogram prints.
